Premier League News: Manchester United Could Lose Rooney To Real Madrid

A Spanish newspaper, AS, has claimed that Wayne Rooney is unlikely to renew his contract with Manchester United paving the way for a transfer to Spanish club Real Madrid.

According to the paper, Rooney is frustrated with the media intrusion into his personal life and that has led to his decision to quit the Old Trafford squad. Real Madrid boss is said to have told the newpaper that he was very keen to have Rooney with the Bernabeu squad.

Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson could get the opportunity to shift to Juventus, in the January transfer window. The Italian club have shown interest in signing Johnson although his contract with the Anfield squad still has three years to run. Juventus are hoping that Liverpool's off-field management wrangles could get Johnson to consider their offer.

In their match against Wolves, this weekend, West Ham will not have the services of recent signing Thomas Hitzlsperger sidelined with a torn thigh muscle that could take several more weeks to heal.

Ibrahim Afellay could join Manchester United next summer when the midfielder's contract with Dutch club PSV Eindoven is set to expire. Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are other sides interested in the extremely adaptable 24 year old who scored twice in Holland's Euro qualifier win over Sweden.

Despite their recent financial problems, Liverpool could invest £14 mn to acquire Brazil striker Nilmar from Soanish club Villarreal. The goal machine has helped his side to second position in Spain's La Liga; Chelsea and Juventus are also said to be interested in signing Nilmar.

Arsenal's goalkeeping problems could soon be at an end if they manage to acquire Gorka Iraizoz from Spain's Athletic Bilbao.

German right-back Philip Lahm could leave Bayern Munich after 15 years spent at the club, if Carlo Ancelotti has his way.

Sir Alex may have finally found a successor to Van der Sar between the posts, in the form of Rangers' goalkeeper Allan McGregor. Playong for the Scotland national squad, McGregor was impressive in the recent qualifier against Spain that Scotland lost 3-2. Van der Sar, who will turn forty at the end of this month, recently announced his intention to retire.

Recently, Fergie is said to have considered Schalke's Manuel Neuer, Ateltico madrid's David de Gea and Ajax's Maarten Sketelenberg, but these players come with about four times the price tag of McGregor who can be acquired for about £5 mn. McGregor rcently became Scotland's first choice between the posts, taking over from Gordon, currently with sunderland in the Premier League.

Real Madrid - The Best Football Club in the World

They are not only the most successful club in the world but also the richest in the world according to the latest survey done by the money league which publish their research results annually. Yes, its true that Real Madrid are the richest club by income for the season 2006-2007 probably for the season 2007-2008 too but the results are not completed yet.

So what makes Real Madrid not only the richest club in the world but more significantly, the most successful as well.Well the statistics don't lie and more often then not speak for themselves. For any club to be successful, only two titles could and should be given credit, The league and the Champions League, the rest are mere formalities as you all know (it does not take much to beat Sao Paulo in a cup final) so I am going to ignore the minor trophies here, lets have a look at most of the major football clubs track records against the Madrid Galacticos.

Manchester United have won only two Champions league trophy, one was way back when it was known as the European cup and the other in 1999,they have 16 league titles.

* Barcelona have also won two champions league trophies and 18 league titles

* Liverpool have won the competition FIVE times and they have 18 league titles

* Inter Milan have 2 champions league titles and 15 league titles

* Ac milan have 7 champions league titles and 17 league titles

There are some other major clubs as well but they have just started to grow so lets just ignore them for a moment.

Finally, Real Madrid has won 9 champions league titles and 30 league titles. Now I have listed all the great clubs of Europe above, not even a single club can match or come close to the records set by the Spanish powerhouse. Thus proving what I stated earlier that real Madrid is the undisputed champion of champions.

Real Madrid is the only team that holds the Cup in property, having won the title five consecutive times.

Why Cristiano Ronaldo Pictured the White of Madrid Over Any Other Side

When it was finally announced that Cristiano Ronaldo would be leaving Manchester United and joining Spanish giants Real Madrid for a fee rumoured to be around £80 million, many United fans were left devastated despite the ongoing speculation. It was realised by many that the constant rumours circling Ronaldo and Real Madrid must have been surfacing for a reason, and it is unlikely to be that it was just to sell newspapers - people were soon starting to get fed up of the whole situation.

United fans were devastated because they knew how much Ronaldo meant to the side, and it wouldn't have been over the top or hysterical to say that he was the reason that we won the Premier League that season, and took us to the Champions League final too. They weren't just upset to be losing a true hero at Manchester united, but at the fact that the side would no longer be able to rely on the special talents of Ronaldo - no longer would he be there to win the side crucial points at pivotal points in the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled at a huge ceremony at the Bernabeu stadium in Madrid in front of over 75,000 highly excited Real Madrid fans. Ronaldo seemed set on joining Madrid even when he was at United, and it was revealed by Sir Alex Ferguson that Ronaldo wanted to join Madrid a few seasons back, having won the Champions League with Man United. Ferguson talked him round and made him stay for an extra season, but couldn't prevent him from finally giving in to the lure of the biggest football club in the world - Real Madrid.

Many people have wondered what the attraction was to Real Madrid for Cristiano, a boy who was born in Madeira, Portugal (Portugal and Spain have a very heated relationship), but to anyone who is a follower of football the attraction of the Real club should be very obvious. Real Madrid have a football history that rivals and surpasses any other clubs, and have been the most successful football team in the history of the game. They are still a massive club with a huge fan base and incredible stadium, and the recent signings should go some way to suggest that financially they are able to spend money, despite the huge debts that the club have.

Perhaps the biggest influence on Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to join Real Madrid will be that of his own blood - his mother, who had stated that she would love to one day see her son wearing the white of Real Madrid. Ronaldo has a very tight and loving family, and he has put much of his success down to the input and love of his own mum, so you can start to understand why Cristiano would want to fulfill his own mum's dreams at a point in his career where he could have joined any club in the world.
